In response to a reporter's question on the news on abolition of visas between Russia and Iran, Spokesman of Iran's Foreign Ministry Bahram Ghasemi said the announcement is not true as the was published.
"For the moment, what can be said for sure is that based on previous negotiations between the two countries, the need for tourism visa will be alleviated under certain agreed-upon circumstances though the deal has not become operational yet."
The official underlined that the agreement and initial documents will soon be signed by the two sides.
Reaching necessary agreements to simplify visa issuance for citizens of both countries requires numerous steps which should be taken by competent authorities of Iran and Russia in due time before the agreement comes into effect, he continued.
Ghasemi went on to underscore "given that spreading incomplete and inaccurate news could cause problems for Iranian nationals, it would be better if inquiries are made from reliable resources before they are published."
